Commun.<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/pubs.rsc.org\/en\/content\/articlehtml\/2016\/dt\/c6dt03324e\" target=\"_blank\">Paper on the publisher's website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/dt2016phosphate.jpg\" width=\"650px\"><\/p>\n<p>Equimolar reactions between Zn<i class=\"gmail_msg\">t<\/i>Bu<sub class=\"gmail_msg\">2<\/sub> and <\/span><span class=\"gmail_msg\" lang=\"EN-GB\">diphenyl phosphate (<i class=\"gmail_msg\">dpphe<\/i>-H) or dimethyl phosphate (<i class=\"gmail_msg\">dmphe<\/i>-H) result in the formation of [<\/span><i class=\"gmail_msg\"><span class=\"gmail_msg\" lang=\"EN-GB\">t<\/span><\/i><span class=\"gmail_msg\" lang=\"EN-GB\">BuZn(<i class=\"gmail_msg\">O<sub class=\"gmail_msg\">2<\/sub>P(OR\u2019)<sub class=\"gmail_msg\">2<\/sub><\/i>)]-type compounds<\/span><span class=\"gmail_msg\" lang=\"EN-GB\">which crystallize as tetranuclear aggregates, <\/span><span class=\"gmail_msg\" lang=\"EN-GB\">[<i class=\"gmail_msg\">t<\/i>BuZn(<i class=\"gmail_msg\">dpphe<\/i>)]<sub class=\"gmail_msg\">4 <\/sub>(1<sub class=\"gmail_msg\">4<\/sub>) or [<i class=\"gmail_msg\">t<\/i>BuZn(<i class=\"gmail_msg\">dmphe<\/i>)]<sub class=\"gmail_msg\">4 <\/sub>(2<sub class=\"gmail_msg\">4<\/sub>), <\/span><span class=\"gmail_msg\" lang=\"EN-US\">with the phosphate ligands spanning 4\u2011coordinate Zn centers. <\/span><span class=\"gmail_msg\" lang=\"EN-GB\">The&nbsp;utility of ZnMe<sub class=\"gmail_msg\">2<\/sub>instead of <\/span><span class=\"gmail_msg\" lang=\"EN-US\">Zn<i class=\"gmail_msg\">t<\/i>Bu<sub class=\"gmail_msg\">2<\/sub><\/span><span class=\"gmail_msg\" lang=\"EN-GB\"> dramatically changes the reaction outcome and leads to [MeZn(<i class=\"gmail_msg\">O<sub class=\"gmail_msg\">2<\/sub>P(OR\u2019)<sub class=\"gmail_msg\">2<\/sub><\/i>)]-type moieties<\/span><span class=\"gmail_msg\" lang=\"EN-GB\"> incorporating <\/span><span class=\"gmail_msg\" lang=\"EN-GB\">zincoxane units, <i class=\"gmail_msg\">i.e<\/i>., pentanuclear [{MeZn(<i class=\"gmail_msg\">dpphe<\/i>)}<sub class=\"gmail_msg\">3<\/sub>(Me<sub class=\"gmail_msg\">2<\/sub>Zn<sub class=\"gmail_msg\">2<\/sub>O)(THF)<sub class=\"gmail_msg\">2<\/sub><wbr>] (3) and nonanuclear [{MeZn(<i class=\"gmail_msg\">dmphe<\/i>)}<sub class=\"gmail_msg\">6<\/sub>(Me<sub class=\"gmail_msg\">2<\/sub>Zn<sub class=\"gmail_msg\">3<\/sub>O<sub class=\"gmail_msg\">2<\/sub>)] (4) aggregates.
