A comprehensive investigation of the synthesis and characterization of a new family of tert-butyl(tert-butoxy)zinc hydroxides, [(<sup>t<\/sup>Bu)<sub>4<\/sub>Zn<sub>4<\/sub>(\u03bc<sub>3<\/sub>-O<sup>t<\/sup>Bu)<sub>x<\/sub>(\u03bc<sub>3<\/sub>-OH)<sub>4\u2212x<\/sub>], as model single-source precursors of ZnO NCs is reported. The direct reaction between well-defined [<sup>t<\/sup>BuZnOH]<sub>6<\/sub> (<b>1<sub>6<\/sub><\/b>) and [<sup>t<\/sup>BuZnO<sup>t<\/sup>Bu]<sub>4<\/sub> (<b>2<sub>4<\/sub><\/b>) in various molar ratios allows the isolation of new mixed cubane aggregates as crystalline solids in a high yield: [(<sup>t<\/sup>Bu)<sub>4<\/sub>Zn<sub>4<\/sub>(\u03bc<sub>3<\/sub>-O<sup>t<\/sup>Bu)<sub>3<\/sub>(\u03bc<sub>3<\/sub>-OH)] (<b>3<\/b>), [(<sup>t<\/sup>Bu)<sub>4<\/sub>Zn<sub>4<\/sub>(\u03bc<sub>3<\/sub>-O<sup>t<\/sup>Bu)<sub>2<\/sub>(\u03bc<sub>3<\/sub>-OH)<sub>2<\/sub>] (<b>4<\/b>), [(<sup>t<\/sup>Bu)<sub>4<\/sub>Zn<sub>4<\/sub>(\u03bc<sub>3<\/sub>-O<sup>t<\/sup>Bu)(\u03bc<sub>3<\/sub>-OH)<sub>3<\/sub>] (<b>5<\/b>). The resulting products were characterized in solution by <sup>1<\/sup>H\u2005NMR and IR spectroscopy, and in the solid state by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The thermal transformations of <b>2\u20135<\/b> were monitored by <i>in situ<\/i> variable-temperature powder X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric measurements.
